The meeting point is outside the Mosque, opposite to The One furniture showroom. Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding designed this programme to increase awareness and understanding between various nationalities living and visiting the Emirates. The mosque tour takes one hour and a quarter, and visitors are invited to discover more about the life and religion of the Emirates by asking as many questions as possible.
	It is in fact a beautiful experience, informative yet spiritual. This is the only mosque in the U.A.E., which is open to non-Muslims, although a dedicated guide of the SMCCU must accompany visitors. Appropriate dress code is required.
Over the past ten years Jumeirah Mosque has become renown to the public as the learning centre and focal point of the Open Doors; Open Minds Programme (Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding).
The level of participation in this activity has increased from an average of 50 visitors to up to 450 visitors in a single visit! Discipline teacher

Lipstick in School (Priceless!)

According to a news report, a certain private school in Washington was recently faced with a unique problem. A number of 12-year-old girls were beginning to use lipstick and would put it on in the bathroom. That was fine, but after they put on their lip stick, they would press their lips to the mirror leaving dozens of little lip prints.

Every night the janitor would remove them, and the next day the girls would put them back.

Finally the principal decided that something had to be done. She called all the girls to the bathroom and met them there with the maintenance man. She explained that all these lip prints were causing a major problem for the janitor who had to clean the mirrors every night (you can just imagine the yawns from the little princesses).

To demonstrate how difficult it had been to clean the mirrors, she asked the maintenance man to show the girls how much effort was required.

He took out a long-handled squeegee, dipped it in the toilet, and cleaned the mirror with it. Since then, there have been no lip prints on the mirror.

A ribbon

A handsome, middle-aged man walked quietly into the cafe and sat down.
Before he ordered, he couldn't help but notice a group of younger men at the table next to him. It was obvious they were making fun of something about him, and it wasn't until he remembered he was wearing a small pink ribbon on the lapel of his suit that he became aware of what the joke was all about.

The man brushed off the reaction as ignorance, but the smirks began to get to him.

He looked one of the rude men square in the eye, placed his hand beneath the ribbon and asked, quizzically, This?"

With that the men all began to laugh out loud.

The man he addressed said, as he fought back laughter,

"Hey, sorry man, but we were

just commenting on how pretty your pink ribbon looks against your blue jacket!"

The middle aged man calmly motioned for the joker to come over to his table and invited him to sit down The guy obliged, not really sure why. In a soft voice, the middle aged man said,
"I wear this ribbon to bring awareness about breast cancer. I wear it in my mother's honour."

"Oh, sorry dude. She died of breast cancer?"

"No, she didn't. She's alive and well. But her breasts nourished me as an infant and were a soft resting place for my head when I was scared or lonely as a little boy. I'm very grateful for my mother's

breasts and her health."

"Umm," the stranger replied, "Yeah."

"And I wear this ribbon to honour my wife", the middle aged man went on.

"And she's okay, too?" the other guy asked.

"Oh, yes. She's fine. Her breasts have been a great source of loving pleasure for both of us and with them she nurtured and nourished our beautiful daughter 2 years ago. I am grateful for my wife's breasts, and for her health."

"Uh huh. And I guess you wear it to honour your daughter, also?"

"It's too late to honour my daughter by wearing it now.

My daughter died of breast cancer one month ago. She thought she was too young to have breast cancer, so when she accidentally noticed a small lump, she ignored it.

She thought that since it wasn't painful, it must not be anything to worry about."

Shaken and ashamed, the now sober stranger said, "Oh, man, I'm so sorry mister."

"So, in my daughter's memory, too, I proudly wear this little ribbon, which allows me the opportunity to enlighten others. Now, go home and talk to your wife and your daughters, your mother and your friends. And here," the middle-aged man reached in his pocket and handed the other man a little pink ribbon.

The guy looked at it, slowly raised his head and asked, "Can ya help me put it on?"

This is breast cancer awareness month. Practice regular breast awareness / self-exam and encourage those women you love to do the same.

MBM-MBI

Memartabatkan Bahasa Malaysia; Memperkukuh Bahasa Inggeris.

1) Penguasaan dwi-lingual adalah pengkaedahan yang terbaik dalam mendepani arus globalisasi disamping punya jati diri negara Malaysia. Dengan kata lain, budaya negara tidak tergadai, negara tidak keciciran.

2) Soal ilmu pengetahuan; gunalah apa sahaja pengkaedahan asalkan isi ilmunya meresap ke dalam sanubari pelajar. Juga, tidak menidakkan soal yang pertama seperti di atas. Pokoknya, untuk memartabatkan suatu bahasa, syarat pertamanya; ia harus mampu menjadi bahasa Ilmu. Maka, atas alasan kebanyakan teks utama adalah daripada Bahasa Inggeris, atas alasan yang sama juga, penguasaan Bahasa Inggeris harus dikukuhkan untuk mencedok ilmu pengetahuan tersebut. Proses transisi selepas penguasaan ilmu tersebut, martabatkanlah bahasa ibunda kita pula seadanya. Mudah, kan?

3) Polemik yang berterusan dengan ada segelintir pihak yang 'urban' sifatnya, yang mahukan juga dasar PPSMI diteruskan di sekolah anak-anak mereka, terlupa bahawa mana mungkin soal DASAR dibeza-bezakan. Bukan dasar namanya itu! Itu mungkin sudah menjadi pengkaedahan pembelajaran. Hakikatnya, negara Malaysia, kalau tidak memartabatkan BAHASA MALAYSIA, negara mana lagi yang mahu memartabatkannya pula? cukup rasional, kan?

4) Dengan era yang serba canggih ini, dasar harus PRO kepada BAHASA MALAYSIA, tak kiralah, pusing macam mana pun. Soal Pengajaran dan Pembelajaran bagaimanapun, masih boleh diperdebatkan dan diperincikan mengikut kesesuaian sekolah masing-masing. Dengan pemahaman isu yang sebenar-benarnya, barulah kita akan bergerak maju ke hadapan dengan bijaksana, aman, dan progresif.

5) BULAN BAHASA yang lepas, apa pula komitmen masyarakat dalam mengisi hari-hari mereka dalam memartabatkan BAHASA? tak kira bahasa MALAYSIA mahupun bahasa INGGERIS? Bukankah seharusnya perlu dilipatgandakan program pengisian bahasa dalam bulan itu berbanding bulan yang lain? Di sekolah, mungkin ada. Di rumah? di dalam kaca Televisyen? di dalam akhbar? di dalam Dewan Rakyat?

(Mungkin perasaan saya sahaja; tidak merasakan datang; mahupun perginya bulan bahasa tahun ini..)

New Car

While we don’t have a great deal of information available at this stage, we do know that Volkswagen is set to reveal the world’s most economical non-hybrid car to shareholders attending the 42nd annual general meeting of Volkswagen AG in Hamburg.

The single-seater is capable of 0.91 litres per 100km (or 258mpg in the old measure) and can manage a top speed of 123km/h.

Pengumuman untuk pelajar SPM

1) Kali ini, kalian akan menduduki peperiksaan SPM. Gred baru yang akan dilalui adalah seperti di kolej dan di universiti. Sistem A+ sehinggalah G. Mungkin, ini sebagai persediaan untuk sistem CGPA pada masa akan datang. Lagipun, pemarkahan seperti ini, sudah dikenali pada peringkat antarabangsa.

2) Ada masalah? Sudah tentu ia akan menjadikan perincian yang lebih menarik dalam pemilihan ke IPTA nanti. Lebih menarik maknanya, lebih mencabar. Mencabar kan? Klik pada berita di atas untuk baca.

Weather Service
